Quartzite is very Hard, Compact, Fine grained, equi-granular homogeneous rocks of metamorphic nature (Quartzite) making it an ideal product for use in foundries.Chemically they are very resistant Mono-Mineralic rocks, principally composed of silica. The other minor constituents vary from origin to origin. High purity quartzite is used to produce ferrosilicon, industrial silica sand, silicon and silicon carbide.
High content of SiO2 from 98% to 99.2%
low content of alkali, or traces
Low Fe content upto 0.05-1.5%%
They are highly resistant to acids, alkalies and thermal impact. Insolubility in acids and alkalies is about 97%.
Quartzite's properties are similar to those of the mineral quartz. A sample of quartzite has a density of approximately 2.3 to 2.4 g/cc. The rock type's hardness of approximately 7 on the Mohs hardness scale makes it very resistant to weathering. Porosity is generally low to very low.
Quartzite can be used as alternative material for quartz aggregate. Quartzite has higher 28 days compressive strength compared to other products. The crushing strength for quartzite is high as compared to other ramming mass products.
